THE ROLE
As part of our Wella R&D organization in Darmstadt, Germany, you will support the global Wella businesses hands-on in our Care and Styling Formulation team. We are looking for an Associate Product Developer to support the transfer and uploading of technical documentation to ensure technical readiness and supporting product development groups for ongoing external innovation (TPM) projects within the care & styling formulation team. Additionally, this role will also support the care & styling formulation work on inhouse innovation programs and current business product renovation & innovation.
This is an entry level position with growth opportunities for a high performing individual.
YOUR WORK WILL INCLUDE
- Supporting essential raw material coding, accurate formula loading and associated product documentation efforts.
- Supporting formula building and other technical readiness activities, ensuring a seamless and efficient transition of critical information from TPM partners to Wella.
- Supporting the ongoing maintenance and compliance of active care and styling products within our portfolio that are manufactured within the TPM network.
- Execution of care & styling formulation experiments, stability studies and associated product lab tests/ characterization methods, e.g. viscosity measurements.
- Documenting formulation/lab work in respective IT systems and creates formula cards in SAP RD. Maintaining high quality data and technical standards and communicate results clearly to line management.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Adaptable to learn use of standard computer systems, e.g. Formulation database and making system (SAP RD) and electronic lab notebook.
- Attention to details and ability to work independently all while responding to changing priorities and feedback.
- Experience of testing hair cosmetic product formulations is preferred. Standard tests include pH, density, rheology.
- Organised and structured approach to documentation and laboratory work.
- Good communication skills to be able to work within the project team and outside of it, e.g with the safety & regulatory team. Good English skills.
- Good practical laboratory skills and ability to write accurate lab records.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Education: minimum Laboratory technician apprenticeship.
Experience:
- Experience in formulation of care & styling or other cosmetic products is preferred.
- Proven record of planning and executing technical lab work and especially product documentation with rigor and discipline.
IT Skills
- MS Office, plus experience with SAP RD or similar R&D management system & formula repository.
- Experience in use of computer systems to run laboratory measurement equipment, e.g. rheometers.
- Understanding of AI principles, and the ability to use AI tools for specific tasks is a plus.
