THE ROLE

We are looking for an experienced packaging design manager with an elegant sensibility, who is well-versed in packaging design considerations, to join our dynamic creative team. This role is a great opportunity for someone who wants to make an immediate impact and help take the OPI brand to the next level. The ideal candidate will have a minimum 7 years design experience with at least 2 years in packaging design. You will be responsible for creating packaging strategies for various accounts; translating key brand elements to create visually compelling environments at point-of-purchase. You take the initiative to research relevant design trends and assess the competitive landscape. You are able to support concepts and execution with design rationale that tie into brand standards and a creative brief. You are a creative problem solver who can take key insights and articulate them into inspired design solutions.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Explore and deliver concepts for packaging and visual merchandising.
  • Evaluate and streamline current designs with emphasis on consistency and alignment with brand standards.
  • Create graphic communication systems and subsequently, Style Guides/Guidelines to be used globally. Graphic communications include, but are not limited to headers, graphic panels, bullnose strips, and hot spot graphics.
  • Present design concepts in a clear and concise manner.
  • Iterate on designs based on direction and feedback from Design Director/Creative Director.
  • Collaborate and brainstorm with marketing, sales strategists, structural engineers and other members of the creative team to ensure the work meets all relevant requirements.
  • Direct, coordinate and review work from third party vendors.
  • Consistently meet project deadlines and maintain a high level of work while managing multiple projects.
  • Create artwork production mechanicals with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Contribute towards optimizing design workflow and creative process.
  • Create renderings of packaging, planograms and promotional displays for various accounts.
  • Travel for press checks or key meetings.
  • Perform additional graphic design tasks, duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Art & Design field.
  • 7+ years experience as a designer across a variety of practices in graphic design with a concentration in package design, collateral and POP displays.
  • A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of design principles, emphasizing the use of typography and photography in layout.
  • Deep understanding of the considerations of beauty packaging from a development process and consumer journey POV.
  • Extensive experience across all phases of design from concept development, design and production.
  • Ability to read and comprehend die lines and basic technical drawings.
  • Basic rendering skills (e.g. in Illustrator, SketchUp).
  • Awareness of in-store environments, packaging, fashion/beauty and lifestyle trends.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in fast paced and highly demanding environment.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud (emphasis on Illustrator, InDesign & Photoshop)
  • Working knowledge of MS Office including Word and PowerPoint.

We disclose the compensation range for positions in compliance with local law. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Wella Company's total rewards package for employees. Pay Range: $70,000 – $85,000 salary per year. Other rewards may include an annual bonus plan or variable pay, depending on the role. In addition, Wella Company provides a rich variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance, life, and disability insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
