THE ROLE
The Head of Creative, Global OPI is a visionary leader capable of setting, activating and executing the brand strategy and launch initiatives. This critical role oversees the creative strategy across all channels with a strong emphasis on digital expression, social media, ecommerce, e-retail, and ensuring the brand has a consistent and powerful Global brand experience that delights both the professional and consumer alike. This role is an innovator and trend lover, who has an ability to story tell across multiple categories including digital, packaging, physical experiences and visual merchandising. A consistent, inspiring and deliberate leader, this role requires a leader who understands how to mentor, grow and champion a diverse group of creatives – unleashing potential in every talent whether internal or external.
This role will partner cross-functionally across the organization to innovate, influence, and champion brand and product love, while balancing expression with clear systems of communication and customer journey, and supporting strategic business goals. The Head of Creative, Global OPI, will be a direct partner with the Head of Editorial building together the visual brand expression and storytelling. This role will also partner with the Head of Creative Operations to drive executional excellence, efficiency in both process and budget, as well as having agility with resourcing and talent allocation. Cross functional collaboration across all functions of the business - Digital, Product Marketing, Trade Marketing, Education, and other stakeholders is a must.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for leading 360° brand design strategy, systemization, and deployment across all consumer touchpoints of the brand and outward to the global organization.
- The brand guardian – ensuring global consistency and execution quality
- Digital-first mindset driving unique and ownable digital and social brand expression
- Innovate and execute breakthrough brand initiatives with disruptive campaigns and fresh expressions of the brand, yet maintaining a consistent brand DNA.
- Develop and optimize the consumer journey across all brand touchpoints with a customer-first, digital-first, social-first approach, while also driving relevance, consistency, and consistency with traditional executions – specifically visual merchandising.
- Build and champion Global brand guidelines across all key channels and categories (digital/packaging/education/VM etc)
- Own and innovate in-store visual merchandising which balances brand expression with business goals
- Partner with our in-house E-Comm team to continually monitor effectiveness of campaigns and optimize Art Direct on set to guide Creative content capture & guide all pre- & post-production for campaigns, video, social and ecommerce
- Collaborate cross functionally to drive alignment, operational excellence, and process change within the organization
- Collaborate and brainstorm with Digital Marketing, Product Marketing Marketing, Trade Marketing, developers, members of the creative team, and other internal and external stakeholders to ensure the work meets all relevant requirements.
- Direct, coordinate, and review and QC execution of work from third party vendors.
- Partner with Head of Operations to optimization in design workflow, creative process, and overall go-to-market process.
- Partner with Head of Editorial to build compelling brand stories and breakthrough campaigns.
- Clearly communicate and present design concepts which drive alignment and meet business needs
- Drive cross-functional collaboration to achieve innovative, customer-centric design solutions, and cascade concepts into marketing and customer experience through development of toolkits and design directives.
- Lead and coach a team of in-house and external designers, developers, and production artists.
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential:
- 18 + years of leadership and beauty industry experience
- Extensive knowledge of brand building with a digital first approach
- Deep expertise in all digital/social platforms
- Deep expertise in packaging development
- A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of design principles, Adobe software, production processes, UX/UI, development, and deployment with a strong emphasis and work history in digital design.
- A deep passion and ongoing knowledge of design, creative, and social media trends, execution and platform-specific best practices and considerations, particularly in the beauty industry.
- Extensive experience leading and directing photoshoots at both small and large scale
- Extensive experience across all phases of design from concept development, design and production.
- Ability to both direct a team and dive in hands-on involvement in projects to ensure executional excellence.
- Ability to navigate a complex global organization and heavily matrixed project accountabilities.
- Expertise in digital platforms, in-store environments, customer journey, and social media with proven ability to use emerging technology to create disruptive and exciting creative, and decisions driven by operational metrics.
- Extensive experience managing an internal design team and processes, and partnering cross functionally in executing multiple projects is a must. Must be a strong collaborator and extremely results focused.
- Strong leadership skills and ability to mentor and develop design talent is required.
- Expert in eCommerce content formats including enhanced & A+ content and be able to lead concepting and design for these platforms with input from marketing & ecommerce teams on business priorities.
- Extensive knowledge of competitive benchmarks, trends, and competitors across social media, pop culture, beauty, entertainment, fashion, and other relevant categories.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in fast paced and highly demanding environment, delivering on-time and on-budget.
- Existing relationships and experience working with external talent – photographers, influencers, social content creators, video editors, nail artist, and other production resources.
- Extensive knowledge of current and emerging trends and best practices in creative, branding, marketing, photography, design, and style.
- Expert level skills in Adobe Creative Cloud, Figma, Sketch, XD, and other digital design applications. Working knowledge of MS Office including Word and PowerPoint
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in an Art & Design field.

- AI experience building content
We disclose the compensation range for positions in compliance with local law. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, skills and in comparison to internal incumbents currently in similar roles. Pay Range: $215,000-$230,000 salary per year. The range listed is just one component of Wella Company's total rewards package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonus plan or variable pay, depending on the role. In addition, Wella Company provides a rich variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance, life and disability insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
