THE ROLE

We have an exciting opportunity for a talented and motivated Senior Scientist to join our OPI R&D team located in Calabasas, CA.  In this role, you will work on end to end innovation, developing OPI nail products for retail and professional services. You will leverage both internal and external formulation pathways to bring superior technology to the market. Throughout the innovation process, you will partner with Global Marketing, Education, and Product & Marketing Insights teams to identify needs and create compelling claims and demos to strengthen the launch of your innovations in market.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • End-to-end innovation to support business growth in retail market
  • Define technical success criteria based on marketing brief and product insights
  • Building innovative technical pathways with sound scientific understanding
  • Driving innovation via new material proposals and technical insights
  • Design comprehensive learning plan to validate formulation pathways
  • Utilize fundamental lab testing tools and methods to perform formula screening and generate performance scorecards.
  • Keep clear formulation and evaluation records in a laboratory notebook while following Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
  • Develop compelling claims story and demos for scientific communication internally and externally
  • Conduct competitive product landscape and attend technical seminars to stay current with technology related to solvent-based lacquers.
  • Maintain and strengthen working relationship with key suppliers and TPMs
  • Project management within the stage gate process and on time delivery of technical readiness with rigor
  • Foster a positive work environment and execute Wella values

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential:

  • Minimum BS/MS in chemistry, materials science, or polymer chemistry.
  • 3+ years of relevant formulation & product development experience in the cosmetics industry. Experience in nail lacquer, lipstick or eyeshadow preferred.
  • Co-development experience with third party manufacturer or external research labs, preferred but not required.
  • Expertise in solvent-based lacquers, polymer and/or coatings technologies preferred
  • Significant record of achievement in the development and commercialization of new products
  • Hands on individual, GLP and organizational skills are a must
  • Strong communication skills and capable of working with multifunctional groups to move project forward
  • Team player and exhibit “can do” attitude, responding effectively to multiple demands.
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment

 

We disclose the compensation range for positions in compliance with local law. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Wella Company's total rewards package for employees. Pay Range: $66,800-$111,300 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonus plan or variable pay, depending on the role. In addition, Wella Company provides a rich variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance, life and disability insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
