Formulation Developer, innovation and technical projects

ABOUT THE ROLE

Care and styling products have been driving the growth of Wella in the past years, and formulation plays a central role to keep the innovation pace. In this role, you will own the lab formulation work for care & styling technical and innovation initiatives x-brand for both professional and retail hair, developing holistic care & styling platform innovations and partner with the technical multifunctional teams on the respective product qualification efforts.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Support Care & Styling formulation projects, with a focus on Prestige Brands and HPI technical initiatives, using digital tools to support formulation decisions.
• Design, execute and document formulation experiments, developing learning plans to validate formulation approaches and deliver high-quality technical outcomes.
• Coordinate product testing, including global test salon and external cosmetic studies, to support the qualification of new products.
• Co-develop technical success criteria for formulation work based on product briefs and insights.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product Development/Technical Brand Management, Process Development and Packaging Development to support successful scale-up and commercialization of new products.
• Ensure accurate formulation and laboratory documentation, including formula cards in SAP RD, while effectively managing multiple priorities and maintaining high data and technical standards.
• Seek and integrate feedback from consumers, customers, suppliers and external experts to continuously improve product and process outcomes.

WHAT WE WANT YOU TO BRING ALONG

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related field, or a laboratory technician qualification with relevant laboratory experience.
• Experience in the formulation, execution and documentation of hair care, styling or other cosmetic products, combined with strong formulation technology knowledge.
• Ability to plan and execute technical work with rigor and discipline and apply scientific expertise to solve complex formulation challenges.
• Experience working in an R&D environment and with relevant digital tools, such as SAP RD or similar R&D/formula management systems and laboratory measurement equipment.
• Strong ownership, problem-solving and creative thinking, with the confidence to proactively propose solutions and influence project direction.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, work independently and adapt to changing priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and work effectively across functions and diverse teams.
• Very good English skills, with confidence presenting technical work and contributing to discussions with R&D leadership and other stakeholders.
• A genuine interest in the beauty industry, combined with programming skills, an understanding of AI principles and openness to using AI tools to improve efficiency.
