THE ROLE 

This is a formulation development role focused on delivering breakthrough hair colorants for Clairol Retail Hair color market to become Industry leader and driving double digit growth. Winning retail is a critical pillar of the overall Wella company’s Hair Color strategy.

Hair Colorants Formulation / Product Development roles offer technically challenging and very rewarding assignments as the products are the most complex chemistry in the Beauty category. This is a particularly exciting time to join the Wella Company as the company is on an ambitious journey of growth. This role offers the chance to work and develop on the diverse retail technology platform to offer superior hair color experience to consumers to grow Clairol retail hair color market share.  Hence the role offers the chance to have a major impact on the future of hair colorants.

The role has a significant component of hands-on laboratory work as well as project management responsibilities. Candidate with experience of formulating hair colors would be an advantage but not essential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES  

• As Hair Color R&D Formulation Chemist this position is focused on the formulation of Hair color products across multiple projects in the context of the company’s research and development and product development/enhancement efforts.
• Developing the color platform to ensure it can deliver target performance under all consumer usage regimes.
• Development of shading strategies compliant with the ever-changing global regulatory hair dyes compliance, whilst keeping as close as possible to company global hair color dye strategies.
• Optimizing the bleaching performance and ensuring the technical damage benefit is retained.
• Optimizing the rheological properties, whilst keeping as close as possible to the current technology platforms and ingredients. 
• Responsible for management of multiple projects, design of technical approaches including characterization of formulated product properties and benefits using quantitative methods, establishment of milestones, project documentation, and driving projects to completion.
• Effective participation in multifunctional teams, e.g. Innovation creation, Technology, Product Insights, product performance lab, Process and Product safety & Regulatory groups.
• Partner with modelling colleagues to bring innovations in shading to increase the efficiency of reaching shade targets.

QUALIFICATIONS 

• Minimum BS in chemistry, materials science, biology, or related science.

• Minimum 5 years of experience in Consumer Goods R&D. (Hair, Nail, Makeup, Skincare, Lip, etc,)
• Grows Capability – we are looking for someone who is passionate about building their technical mastery. Hair colorants are complex in their chemistry, so an interest in building expertise will be needed.
• Collaborates – ability to effectively collaborate in multifunctional teams.
• Focus on Priorities – ability to handle multiple pieces of work in parallel, driving them to completion.
• Innovates and reapplies – a significant part of the role will involve partnership with the global formulation/innovation creation team to bring in new ideas for colorants for retail hair markets. This will require an open mind and enthusiasm for bringing new opportunities to life in the project.
• Must be open and curious to new ideas / new technology approaches to deliver consumer benefits.

We disclose the compensation range for positions in compliance with local law. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Wella Company's total rewards package for employees. Pay range: $100,000-$110,000 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonus plan or variable pay, depending on the role.
