We are currently seeking a Senior Manager to lead Product Development for Retail Hair Color.  This role will be responsible for strategically developing and managing all category product development for new and existing products. This position will be based in Morris Plains, New Jersey with regular travel to New York City. The roles and responsibilities will include the following:



  • Responsible for strategically developing and managing all category product development for new and existing products.
  • Translate consumer insights into superior product offerings and executing with excellence in a challenging and competitive category.
  • This will include defining the  consumer target for the product design and managing the work within R&D to deliver against initiative requirements. This will be accomplished through close partnership with both technology design and commercial cross functional partners
  • Lead and develop quantitative and qualitative consumer tests.
  • Build correlations between instrumental testing and product performance related to the consumer experience.
  • Build R&D capability in scientific communication & claims substantiation in order to deliver excellence in execution.
  • R&D Product Development leader for design and delivery of initiatives including leading the core consumer research efforts to define the initiative
  • Work intimately with the Multifunctional Initiative Global Design Team (Marketing, Design, CMK and PS)
  • Internally and externally focused. Constantly seeking out and intently listening to consumers, customers, suppliers and external experts with knowledge and experience which can positively impact our business. Personally participating in consumer and customer immersions as appropriate




  • Experienced Technologist with minimum 5 years of relevant experience in of consumer goods, hair care and/or hair color experience preferred.
  • Manages and orchestrates the product development process by collaborating with all functions involved to ensure operational excellence, both for new products and changes to existing products.
  • Translates platform technologies into consumer relevant ideas/benefits/RTB
  • Partners with Marketing on strategy and concept creation
  • Accountable for the technical readiness and delivery of projects. Manages multiple priorities effectively, ensures technical rigor of all initiatives and / or technical solutions. Establishes and maintains, high quality data and technical standards.
  •  Must be able to influences others, outside of functional area. This includes challenging the status quo based on data, knowledge, and experience to make project recommendations to move forward, change direction, delay, or cancel as appropriate.
  • Must possesses broad product development mastery and through business understanding proposes new strategies and new projects which will drive competitiveness, sales and volume.
  • Must possess an entrepreneurial spirit and passion for beauty.  Must have exceptional organization skills, possess a strong acumen for detail, along with having a strategic and creative mindset
  • Possesses a strong background in Products Insights (PI) and initiative design. Technical mastery of a broad range of PI capability skills including qual/quant consumer research design and execution along with new product qualification mastery, a plus. Candidate must have strong leadership skills; coaching and collaboration within broader R&D will be expected
  • Experience in the development of core consumer models and understanding of technical models to inform product design.
  • Strong team leadership and project management skills including ability to manage initiative timelines and technical CPS ensuring excellence in holistic design and execution. A high capacity to manage complexity associated with delivering quality initiatives against challenging timelines
  • Outstanding collaboration skills both within R&D and across functions and geographies. Daily interaction with technology design PR and multifunctional commercial partners is required to ensure this critical interface is seamless.
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to influence both internally across functions and externally with Beauty based media and agencies
  • Capable of communicating science and technology to non-technical community
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment  A strong sense of urgency to create and innovate in a very complex category. Requires creative thinking skill and a keen interest in beauty.
  • Attention to details and ability to work independently all while responding to changing priorities and feedback.

  • Product Development process
  • Product portfolios/options within category
  • Consumer package goods or beauty industry experience is preferred
