THE ROLE  

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as a Senior Manager, Clairol Product Development. In this role, you will be responsible for leading parts of the Research and Development (R&D) efforts, strategically managing all aspects of category product development for both new and existing products. Your role will be pivotal in driving the growth of the Clairol Franchise by leveraging innovative technologies and delivering meaningful benefits to consumers.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Lead the R&D efforts as the Global Senior Manager for the Retail Hair Color, Clairol Franchise.
  • Develop and manage all aspects of category product development for new and existing products.
  • Demonstrate leadership within the function and influence the direction of the brand and technology.
  • Spearhead the development of new Public Relations (PR) skills and methods.
  • Drive the growth of the Clairol Franchise by exploring new territories and leveraging current and new technologies.
  • Establish capabilities to identify correlations between instrumental testing and product performance to enhance the consumer experience.
  • Collaborate closely with the Multifunctional Initiative Global Design Team, including Marketing, Design, Consumer and Market Knowledge (CMK), and Packaging Supply (PS).
  • Maintain a strong internal and external focus by actively seeking and attentively listening to consumers, customers, suppliers, and external experts.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Seasoned Technologist with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in consumer goods, hair care, and/or hair color (preferred).

• Efficiently manage and coordinate the product development process by collaborating with all involved functions to ensure operational excellence, both for new products and modifications to existing ones.

• Translate platform technologies into consumer-relevant ideas, benefits, and reasons-to-believe (RTBs).

• Partner with Marketing to develop strategies and create concepts.

• Possess the ability to influence individuals outside of the functional area. This includes challenging the status quo based on data, knowledge, and experience to make project recommendations for moving forward, changing direction, delaying, or canceling when appropriate.

• Exhibit extensive product development expertise and a solid understanding of the business. Propose new strategies and projects that drive competitiveness, sales, and volume.

• Demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for beauty. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a strategic and creative mindset are essential.

• Possess a strong background in Product Insights (PI) and product design. Technical proficiency in a broad range of PI capability skills is a plus. The candidate must have strong leadership skills and be adept at coaching and collaborating within the broader R&D organization.

• Experience in developing core consumer models and understanding technical models to inform product design.

• Excellent collaboration skills both within R&D and across functions and geographies. Daily interaction with multifunctional commercial partners is necessary to ensure a seamless interface.

• Exceptional communication skills and the ability to influence both internally across functions and externally with beauty-focused media and agencies.

• Capable of effectively communicating science and technology to non-technical audiences.

 

In-depth knowledge of:

• Technical understanding of Platforms and Palettes.

• Product development process.

• Product portfolios/options within the category and competitive landscape.

• Preference for experience in consumer-packaged goods or the beauty industry.

 

We disclose the compensation range for positions in compliance with local law. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Wella Company's total rewards package for employees. Pay Range: $123,000-$150,000 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonus plan or variable pay, depending on the role. In addition, Wella Company provides a rich variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance, life, and disability insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
