The Role:

The Wella Company is seeking an experienced Paralegal/Advertising Claims Manager to support the Legal team for Wella Company.

 

The Advertising Claims Manager will play a key role with the Legal Team at Wella, and will be responsible for reviewing, coordinating, and approving labeling, advertising and marketing  materials. The role will work with cross functional partners across all of Wella’s beauty brands, including OPI, GHD, BRIOGEO, and the Wella brands, and will provide essential advice to the brand teams, ensuring compliance and effective communication across multiple functions.

 

This role will also serve as a paralegal supporting litigation matters, liaising with various functions, and working with outside counsel and insurance counsel to manage document production, depositions and filings.   

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Lead strategic evaluation and approval of advertising and promotional claims, ensuring all substantiation materials meet internal standards and external regulatory expectations.
  • Act as the primary liaison across Legal, Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, and R&D, guiding multidisciplinary teams through the claims development process with a focus on risk mitigation and brand integrity.
  • Provide authoritative counsel on advertising claim requirements, incorporating evolving regulatory guidance, industry best practices, and scientific substantiation criteria.
  • Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of claims development, from ideation and substantiation review to final approval, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Serve as the enterprise-level steward of advertising claim governance, enforcing adherence to applicable laws, industry codes, and internal policies across all promotional channels.

 

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Marketing, Law, Communications).
  • 8+ years work experience
  • Experience in legal compliance, marketing, or advertising.
  • Strong understanding of advertising regulations and standards.
  • Litigation management experience.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills.

 

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the beauty or cosmetics industry.
  • Familiarity with digital marketing and social media advertising.
  • Knowledge of market research methodologies.
  • Science background.
  • Experience reviewing contracts.

  • Prior experience as an in-house advertising reviewer
  • Must be a self-starter, innovative and creative thinker, able to work independently, yet have a win for the team attitude.
  • Must see the big picture but also give attention to details.
  • Flexibility to work across multiple time zones
  • Must be fluent in English, other languages will be a plus.
  • Computer skills: Proficient in Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint
  • Knowledge of advertising/labeling review systems such as Brandworks as well as litigation document management systems is a significant advantage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills - Ability to drive a process while addressing not just legal, but also pragmatic business considerations.
  • Strong organization skills: Ability to manage heavy workload and to independently prioritize tasks and identify the next steps – Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills: Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a variety of people, lawyers, fellow paralegals and clients at all levels.

We disclose the compensation range for positions in compliance with local law. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, skills and in comparison to internal incumbents currently in similar roles. Pay Range: $110,000 - $140,000 salary per year. The range listed is just one component of Wella Company's total rewards package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonus plan or variable pay, depending on the role. In addition, Wella Company provides a rich variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance, life and disability insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
