Position Summary:  The lawyer will report directly to the current SVP, Legal Global Commercial and will be responsible for supporting U.S. and Canada commercial matters and legal projects geared towards the provision of education, training and functional tools to the North America business. Success in the role will require the ability to issue-spot across a variety of functional areas and willingness to pitch in on initiatives important to the commercial teams.  Experience with supporting Canadian commercial teams, data privacy, real estate, and/or intellectual property a plus. 

 

Key Responsibilities:    The ideal candidate should have experience to support key strategic, tactical and operational responsibilities including: 

  • Transactional matters, such as drafting commercial and distribution agreements; implementation of local and global templates; drafting and negotiating marketing and influencer agreements; managing general operational contracts and supporting indirect procurement contract negotiations (includes services agreements, digital projects and consulting agreements).

  • Digital and ecommerce, including monitoring and implementing laws relevant to pricing, online payments, FTC guidance (e.g. product reviews and disclosures) and consumer transactions.

  • Litigation, including managing commercial disputes and supporting resolution of claims relevant to a consumer products company.

  • Education and training responsive to the needs of a geographically diverse sales organization including interpretation of relevant legislation such as relevant FTC guidance and enforcement; interpretation of the Robinson Patman Act, Sherman Act and Clayton Act; and guidance on trade and general operational questions.

  • Acting as a business partner and trusted advisor, providing direct legal counsel to executives across the Wella North America market to foster timely strategic and commercial business decisions, including representing the legal function on the U.S. Leadership Team.

  • Cross-functional collaboration within a matrixed global organization and ability to translate and implement global policies within the local market.

 

Qualifications:

  • At least 10-12 years of relevant legal experience at a law firm, and/or as a corporate counsel at a multinational company (CPG preferably)

  • Experience within the beauty industry strongly preferred

  • Strong sense of team spirit and cross-functional collaboration

  • Hands-on at work and can be independent in managing complex projects

  • Demonstrated legal drafting and interpretation skills

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities

  • Ability to execute in a complex matrixed geographically dispersed environment

  • High ethical standards and professionalism

  • Position requires physical presence in the Calabasas, CA office on a regular basis

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school with exceptional academic credentials; active bar membership in good standing

  • Must have a license or provisional license to practice in California (or be able to obtain a license quickly)

 

We disclose the compensation range for positions in compliance with local law. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, skills and in comparison to internal incumbents currently in similar roles—pay Range: $165-170K salary per year plus bonus. The range listed is just one component of Wella Company's total rewards package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonus plan or variable pay, depending on the role.
