The Role
The Director, US Corporate Communications and Global External Communications at Wella is responsible for developing and executing strategic internal and external communication plans that drive organizational awareness, engagement, and reputation. This role leads the integration of U.S. initiatives with global priorities, providing strategic guidance to senior leadership and collaborating across teams to deliver impactful messaging. The director manages large-scale events, supports crisis communications, and enhances Wella’s brand presence through targeted content and media relations. Key responsibilities include supporting leadership communications, partnering with HR on organizational change messaging, and representing Wella within industry and community organizations. Proven expertise in strategic communications, event organization, and stakeholder collaboration are essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Ownership of a purposeful internal communication ecosystem and executional plan that helps drive the organization’s awareness, clarity, engagement, motivation, collaboration and success.
- The identification and threading together of all comms operations using our “U.S. Initiatives supporting Global Priorities” theme
- Strategic communications guidance and support for US GM
- Support to US Leadership Team for cascading local and global news to their teams
- Works in partnership with HR to develop and implement organizational change communication plans and messaging
- Organization and production of US Town Halls, Wella Connection conference, and Global Town Hall viewings/FAQ sessions
- Refresh US hub on intranet and pivot to sharing US news there
- Localizing global corporate messages and collaborating with global comms on media outreach in the US
- Advising US GM on LinkedIn/Instagram channel comms animation, and generating key content to promote a vibrant image for Wella US.
- Supporting Sales team with communications to strengthen customer’s view of Wella and highlight key actions or moments
- Collaborating on crisis communications and escalation processes
- Represent company within key industry and community organizations
Success Metrics
- U.S. business unit achieves NR targets
- U.S. engagement score rises by +7pts per LT’s FY26 objective
- Successful adoption of market initiatives through effective communication
- High engagement in Town Halls and comms events
- Amplification of global initiatives at the market level
- Timely and effective escalation and mitigation of reputational risks
- Increased external awareness and reputation of company and leaders, as appropriate
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
- 10 years’ experience in employee and internal communications and public relations. Strong background in communications writing and editing; Strong preference for global experience.
- In-house corporate experience on a high-performance team delivering exceptional output with lean team support; Agility to operate, pivot and sense and respond to multiple priorities.
- Expertise in strategic communications and external reputation management
- Proactive leadership of the comms ecosystems
- Assertive collaboration with key stakeholders to mine for key communication concepts, moments, and content; Ability to positively influence senior stakeholders
- Ability to build and execute editorial calendars and comms frameworks
- Skilled in media training and executive support; Effective risk mitigation and crisis communications
- Strong collaborator with global and other market comms teams and with colleagues across functions
- Proficiency in organizing large-scale events and Town Halls
- Experienced track record with corporate media relations
- Travel to events and sites
We disclose the compensation range for positions in compliance with local law. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, skills and in comparison to internal incumbents currently in similar roles. Pay Range: $180,000 - $220,000 salary per year. The range listed is just one component of Wella Company's total rewards package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonus plan or variable pay, depending on the role. In addition, Wella Company provides a rich variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance, life and disability insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
